The Gannet Finneston Glasgow

An absolute jewel in Glasgow’s restaurant scene is The Gannet, with it’s cheeky name (slang for glutton) and speakeasy decor, I was smitten before we even sat down. Then there came the piping hot crusty bread straight out of the oven, chased by some stellar cocktails and artfully plated seasonal dishes. Some really beautiful cooking is happening here and they’ve got the awards to prove it.

The Gannet is a wonderful place to eat, the sort of restaurant where, if it were based in London, might be a bit sniffy about small children. It’s probably a bit of a stereotype (sorry, I have been in London too long) but Scotland just seems friendlier, more accommodating, easier to live in, happier to have kids knocking about. Max wasn’t with us during this meal but I spoke with the restaurant about their child policy which is ‘children are completely welcome’. So yes, of course you can take your kids but, this is a very mollifying, and to be honest, sexy place to eat out. If you have access to a babysitter then go for dinner and play footsie under the table.

What’s good? All of it. Seriously. Ok if you want me to pin some things down, the deer, the grouse, the salted caramel fondant – you’ve never had salted caramel like this. Yes, I know salted caramel has been done to death but this is different.

Child friendly? Absolutely.
