The Manor Clapham

I discovered The Manor via the Taste Festival. When scouring the list of dishes presenting at Taste I saw ‘Crispy chicken skins, kimchi and bbq sauce’ and thought that’s my kind of place. Oh boy was I right on this one.

The Manor is beautiful, all taupes and browns and greys, casual and soft and light like a Zara home catalogue. The staff are attentive and friendly and perfectly professional and there’s ample space in the main dining room, under the skylight, for buggies. This is a restaurant for grown ups but they’ve made ample provision for little ones too. Despite its relaxed atmosphere, The Manor is sophisticated, the cooking creative and courageous. They do an all day brunch here but after scanning the tasting menu it seemed daft not to try everything on offer.

What’s good? Those crispy chicken skins – they’re actually very plump and juicy underneath the first crisp layer and the kimchi bbq sauce is beautiful, we mopped it up with bread when we ran out of chicken. The yearling lamb is also perfectly tender, with some fermented flavours balancing the game. The stone fruit, almond parfait and elderflower was wonderful. Overall every dish was very well executed.

Kid friendly? These guys are smart and they know their clientele have kids, they made us feel very welcome. There’s a few stairs at the front but it’s easy to bump the buggy up and down.
