This new opening from the chef who co-founded Le Bun is a high end, trendy Wendy extension of the concept they launched at the street food outlet. The food here is a mixture of high end French and dirty American junk food. Everything was very truffled. I don’t normally use this word but Carte Blanche does slutty food. In a good way.
When we rolled up for the soft launch they’d not even painted the sign yet and it was hard to find but once inside it’s a simple space with counter seats as well as tables with an open kitchen up the back. They’ve got a cracking natural wine list because of course they do. This is Hackney.
Full disclosure, we went here sans baby but there’s space and it’s loud and at a push you could get a little person to eat some fried chicken with caviar. Mine probably would. Kids aren’t the first thing on their mind here however, there’s a disabled loo but no baby change yet and no highchairs to be seen so if you fancy a slutty brunch in Hackney avec small fries you’ll need to bring your own.
What’s good? The cod cheek with creamed corn is a marvel of a dish. The chicken and caviar isn’t too shabby either and we really loved the crispy pigs ears.
Kid friendly? You could make it work.
