Hammer and Tongs Farringdon

Max and I were invited down to test drive South African Braai restaurant Hammer & Tongs, a cosy spot, not far from The Postal museum. It might surprise you to know that Max is not always the most adventurous of eaters. We try but he’s two and there’s no arguing with two. It turns out however, that Max is a big fan of Braai.

The restaurant is a bit of a tight squeeze when at capacity but it’s fully accessible for buggies, has high chairs, baby change and an excellent kids menu. Max literally ate biltong, chips, braaied butternut fritters, rice and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. I don’t know how he managed to fit it all in tbh. The team are super accommodating and brought everything out for Max first in addition to a colouring page and a jar of pencils and he pretty much occupied himself for the entire meal which left us to get on with the business of eating a very large quantity of barbecued meats.

The menu at Hammer and Tongs is set up for sharing, we opted for a platter that had steak, feta salad, chicken wings, pork belly, sheep chops and a South African speciality Braaibroodjie, a toasted cheese and chutney sandwich.

What’s good? The biltong is excellent – best I’ve ever had, the Braaibroodjie was also completely delicious but all the meat was excellent. Up there with Blacklock but even more options.

Kid friendly? Absolutely.
