Lina Stores Kings Cross

I’m sort of furious that this restaurant exists. With its perfect Wes Anderson sage green decor, glorious menu and lovely staff who all greeted me as Bella! This is the much lauded soho delis second and largest restaurant and it is thoroughly delightful.

Maybe I was so spellbound because i managed to eat here alone. I don’t really ever get much time alone these days and ignoring some dubious doctors advice I travelled to London for a romantic evening with my husband on a rainy Tuesday afternoon from Glasgow. A frivolous little rebellion at 36 weeks pregnant, it made me so happy to do it and coloured all my dining experiences that day. Glasgow is wonderful, don’t get me wrong but it doesn’t stop me missing London.

As it was late and I had a dinner date too and the menu is actually quite vast, I barely scratched the surface at Lina Stores. What I will say is that having now eaten at both their soho (too tight for buggies, mostly counter seating) and kings cross branches that I’ve never eaten a dish with them that I didn’t adore. Plus they’ve also got a deli attached to this site and you can buy fresh pasta to take home too.

What’s good? The toasted soldiers with butter and anchovies were spectacular, a beautiful balance of salt and fat on pillowy but crisp bread. The double ravioli and the orecchiette with lamb sausage were also *chefs kiss*. orecchiette or little ears as they are sometimes known, are my favourite pasta. The tiramisu ice cream sandwich. I need to go back and try so much more from this menu.

Kid friendly? Very much so. I spied 3 separate tables full of people with kids under two and ample space to pop buggies at the front of the restaurant. There isn’t a children’s menu however, most children will find some pasta they would like, except my child who for some bizarre reason doesn’t like pasta at all. (I know) The portions are small for sharing so just right for a little person.
