Kapao West End Glasgow

Tucked underneath Nando’s in a basement just off Byres road is the new Asian small plates venture from the gang behind Ox and Finch. Immediately added to Glasgow Lives’ best restaurant list pretty much on its opening day, there is a lot of good stuff happening here for sure. It’s also surprisingly large inside, with a lift if you can’t get down the stairs. Kapao reminds me a lot of Smoking Goat in Shoreditch but both the menu and the space are more accessible.

It’s probably a hangover from eating out with kids in London but I still get really anxious at the start of the meal that the kids might kick off and we’ll have to leave. Despite the fact it’s never actually come to that in 3 years of writing this blog. Our visit to Kapao was no exception but I needn’t have worried. The wait staff were really helpful and friendly, happily getting us a high chair that Max refused to sit in and teasing me when I dropped corn on Zelda’s head and then picked it off and ate it. Because I’m that classy.

There’s loads of booths as well as tables in the space as well as a swanky bar. A few menu items I thought were closer to miss than hit but overall the meal was delicious and no one had a tantrum or shit themselves at the table so winner. If anyone has any clue about where to park in the West End which will not get us a ticket, please drop me a line. It’s probably the only tricky thing about eating out in the area with small people because I am not ready to brave the bus with two and the subway in Glasgow is basically a write off if you’ve got a buggy.

What’s good? The corn ribs, the caramel chicken, the aubergine curry, the banana fritters and soft serve. The kids meals.

Kid friendly? Yep. They’ve got everything you need.
