Freak Scene Soho

This is a little gem.

I like it for a handful of reasons. Firstly it’s taken Barrafinas old spot and I (controversial, I know) didn’t much like Barrafina. Two, it seems to be staffed almost entirely by Australian people and they are my people. And three there’s some very interesting food happening at Freak Scene.

I feel like I’ve heard very little about this place consider the notoriety of the head chef but I guess London is a big pond. This isn’t an easy trip with a little person unless they’re big enough for their own stool and they’re into jalapeños. It’s counter space only but you could pop a sleeping bub in a buggy behind you while you ate.

The restaurant is named after a dinosaur jr. song and the place itself looks hugely changed from its barrafina days. It’s a bit punk in there now. Feels more spacious and more casual.

What’s good? The chicken fried chicken and those chips. Reminiscent of the quality chop houses wonderful confit potato but with a liberal amount of coriander and a jalapeño dip.

Kid friendly? Sadly no. In a busy service there’s no way you’d get in here with a buggy. It’s just not the right shape.
