God bless The Bus Cafe. An actual big red bus with a cracking kitchen inside and picnic tables out smack bang on Margate Beach. They do light bites in the week but the weekend breakfast is their thing. Big heaps of it called mounds. essentially these are potato rostie’s heaped with whatever good breakfast things you’re into.
They’ve got a kids menu and colouring to boot and the staff are diamonds. We were refused entry to Dreamland which I had my heart set on going to with all our luggage. The Bus Cafe agreed to mind it all for us until we caught our train. I was fully prepared to be told to fuck off when I asked them to be honest and the level of chill I received in response is maybe the nicest thing that’s ever happened to me after the birth of my son/marriage to my best friend.
Not only are they accommodating of those who have carted a sleepyhead across Margate they also do gluten and dairy free stuff too. Everything is fresh and seasonal and lovely.
What’s good? I really loved my posh mound which contained a homemade Beetroot, potato & red onion rostie, spinach, mumbled eggs, crushed avocado with lemon, locally smoked salmon served and homemade horseradish cream.
Kid friendly? Absolutely.
