Monsieur Le Duck Clerkenwell

I like somewhere a bit niche. Somewhere that’s really honed what they do in one area. For duck dishes – that’s Monsieur Le Duck. They’ve just moved to a bigger location near Farringdon station (pair this lunch with a trip to the postal museum). It’s a decent sized space with bare brick and French pop playing on the radio.

Despite its trendy location it actually feels very homely. The waitstaff are incredibly friendly and helpful, our sides arrived slightly after our mains for which they apologised for profusely and then gave us a discount. I would have happily settled for an apology alone. Maybe we look scarier than I think we do dining out with a grandma and a toddler?

There’s space for buggies, it’s accessible apart from one step at the entrance, there’s a bank of high chairs available and a decent sized disabled loo. No baby change table but room to do this on the floor if needs be. There’s no dedicated children’s menu, we’ve taken to bringing a peanut butter sandwich with us everywhere we go now but the fries are so good. I defy any child to refused the fries at Monsieur Le Duck.

Now, the food. It’s obviously quite duck heavy but there’s a few veggie options and the desserts which are incredible. There’s an excellent sample platter of a burger, confit leg and two other servings of toast duck for £34 which is a great option if you’re hungry and happy to share. We went with this and skipped starters but the starters all read very well and we’ll be back to try them. Along with the duck wellington which requires 48 hours notice.

What’s good? The confit duck leg and the chargrilled breast are especially good but as are the green beans fried in garlic butter. Special mention to the crem brûlée and the chocolate mousse which were both insanely good. I’m sure it will come as no surprise that I’ve eaten quite a lot of crem brûlée in my time, this is perhaps the best I’ve ever had.

Kid friendly? Yep, all they’re missing is a colouring page with a small kids menu but they were happy to have Max dine with us.
