Spuntino Soho

This is not a child friendly restaurant, I do not recommend taking your kids here. Spuntino is a joint. It belongs on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, it is dark and it is counter service only. It is the sort of place that when you are a little bit drunk with someone you don’t know that well and it’s becoming apparent that you might get laid but you sort of need to eat first, that you should suggest by leaning in and breathily saying ‘I know a place’. If you’re in a long term relationship go here, pretend you’ve just met and hit on each other.

The food is okay, there are better places to eat macaroni cheese in London but they don’t have the swagger of Spuntino. If I’m honest the main draw for me, a woman who doesn’t get out on many dates these days, was the peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the dessert menu. I would have happily eaten an actual peanut butter and jelly sandwich but this one’s bread is made from peanut butter ice cream. Nuff said. I also like very much that they plonk a cup of popcorn down in front of you when you pull up a stool.

What’s good? The PB&J. The sliders. The ambiance.

Kid friendly? Lol no. Not unless your kid is old enough to grow a bad teenage moustache.
