Art Yard Bankside

The decor at Art Yard is pretty much how I wish my house looked. Muted, artistic, lots of geometric patterns. We were seated at a large table by a big window slightly away from the main dining area and if I tried really hard I could almost image we were having lunch at home (in my dreams). Except with a much fancier high chair than we have (they had a stokke, complete with cushion) and much nicer art work.

The team at Art Yard are still fine tuning the menu. We went specifically because their kids menu reads incredibly well to find it wasn’t yet available but coming soon. So Max had chips and bread. Which no child ever died of. The grown ups menu is delightful, full of a mix of smaller sharing plates and larger dishes. The smoked eel and venison wellington both big draws for me. Being very newly opened not everything is quite in place yet. The disabled loo is spacious and beautiful but missing a baby change station.

I have faith in this restaurant though. The menu is promising, the space is beautiful, the staff are warm and it’s right opposite Blackfriars station meaning it is easy for us to get to which almost nowhere fun is. There is great potential here.

What’s good? The desserts, caramelised pineapple with coconut sorbet and pecan pie with pumpkin ice cream were particularly good. See also the steak. And the crab.

Kid friendly? It’s an easy option to take the family but they’ve still got a few things to sort before it’s perfect.
