I repeatedly kiss my fingers at the thought of Levan. This is a proper neighbourhood gem. Really laid back, friendly service, great music playing, nothing was a drama. I guess technically it’s a wine bar but I’m 20 weeks pregnant so I was there for the food. Which is nothing short of magnificent.
Dark teal walls, beautiful wine glasses, completely relaxing atmosphere that couldn’t even be shattered by Max crying that he wanted to go home. We have him a piece of malt loaf and he then changed his mind. This place isn’t set up for kids but it’s Peckham so they’ll accommodate them regardless.
They’ve got highchairs and on the day we visited there were several other families with children of varying ages having lunch. The bathroom is too small to even consider a nappy change and there’s no kids menu but they do a perfect Croque Monsieur that will suit even the fussiest of eaters.
Every single thing that came out of the kitchen was both simple and unusual and delicious. Small numbers of ingredients and lots of butter. The cooking at its heart is French I think but with a twist. Tempura and Ponzu both make an appearance on the menu.
What’s good? All the desserts. The croque Monsieur, the chips with saffron aioli, the pork, the tempura sweetcorn. Everything we ordered. Just lush. I fully recommend ordering everything on the menu tbh.
Kid friendly? Sure. I probably wouldn’t brave it on the weekend with small fries though because it will be rammed and space will be tight. Aim for a mid week lunch.
