Loyal Tavern Bermondsey

Lovely, lovely, lovely. That’s all I can think to say about Loyal Tavern a new venture from a ex Duck and Waffle Chef Tom Cenci who I’ve been stalking on social media for years. Hi Tom! His speciality is tasty savoury morsels and the entire menu at Loyal Tavern is made up of the likes of this.

We were sooooooo late to this lunch booking. We forgot the portable highchair, I’d just come from a difficult hospital appointment, service was about 20 minutes from finishing by the time we ordered and yet, the staff were completely lovely about it and gave Max chocolate. Phew.

Despite their being buckets of space here for buggies and the like, the place still feels really cosy, with caramel coloured booths patched together with old leather and tartan. There’s a convenient disabled loo, baby change and highchairs all at the ready and honestly, everyone seemed non fazed about my toddler wanting to sit under the table for some of the meal. Also Tanner street park is close by for afters when he needed to do some sprinting and shrieking while we waddled off the pudding.

What’s good? The chicken skin with hot sauce. omg. unbelievably delicious. They even made it with creme fraiche for me instead because I disappointingly am not allowed to eat blue cheese whilst up the duff. The pig cheek and the gurnard were both wonderful. The fondant potatoes with stinking bishop perfection. All the puds were lovely too.

Kid friendly? Very much so.
